Autopackage Takes A Beating

As pointed out by my friend grifferz, it seems that Autopackage has been taking a beating on Planet Debian recently. I sort of like Autopackage as an application but I often have trouble with some of their attitudes. I agree wholehartedly with what Jeff Licquia, Eric Schubert and Daniel Stone have to say on the subject of the Autopackage project basically hating everything about the way Linux works as far as package managers and hating the way that Python and C++ do business in general.

I agree that the Autopackage devs tend to speak the chin when talking about how poorly everything else functions and how awefully it is designed. I don’t agree with the community ceasing to use Autopackage completely because the devs are a little bit misguided. I think we should try as hard as we can to reach out and bridge the gaps between Autopackage and the like. That is why I have taken the liberty of creating an autopackage of the Python 2.4.2 release. I don’t know if it works because I haven’t found someone with a Python-less machine who wants to install it from an autopackage. Regardless, I think the irony will do wonders for both parties.
