A few days ago I reopened my search for the laptop that I can take to school. I checked through countless different vendors and have yet to find one that offers the features I am looking for at an affordable price. Some, are just too expensive to speak of and others are simply not what I want.
Then of course comes the issue of windows tax increasing the price of store bought laptops. Although there are ways to get refunds on this tax, my friend tonytiger has shown me that I am not the only one with this issue recently. Alan Pope has posted several blog entries on this dilemma.
Windows tax aside, the Dell Inspiron 6000 is looking to be the winner. It might take some work to get the Intel Pro Wireless 2200 card working but it doesn’t look like it will be too bad. There are a few people who have gotten Debian working fine on this same model..
